Elana is an illustrator and designer from Northern California. She spent her childhood outdoors collecting seashells, building backyard fairy houses, and making toys out of found treasures. Her work is deeply inspired by the natural world, from foggy beaches to dusty desert valleys. Her goods mirror the environment by focusing on form and function, using sustainable practices and natural fibers, dyes, and inks. She has been making art her whole life, learning from her family of artists and creatives - from dancers and musicians, to quilters and potters. She currently lives and works in Portland, OR, and when she's not in her studio, she's most likely playing with her two kitties, gardening in her yard, or off with her husband trying to find the sun.

Elana Gabrielle’s collection of printed goods was created to inspire interaction with the natural world. Elana designs her goods with community in mind, weaving imagery of plants and landscapes to enliven tabletops, brighten walls, and adorn your body. Each piece is made keeping visual delight and utility in mind with the intention of adding something special to the everyday. These goods are meant to be used, gifted, passed down, and used again; cultivating connection and imagination.
Each piece begins with fragments of an idea. Thoughts are jotted down and scribbled on bits of paper, scraps of fabric, and journals filled with lists. I write first, and sketch out form and ideas. For textiles I create my patterns and design in Photoshop so that I can form crisp lines and adjust size and scale quickly and easily. For prints and cards, I begin the same way. Depending on the piece I will create the final work with gouache and colored pencil, cut paper collage, brush markers, or some combination of materials depending on what the design is calling for. I love exploring the ways that shapes and colors transform when applied to different surfaces. I am inspired by tactile textures and overlapping colors playing together to create something exciting. These pieces get better with age, offering a well-lived and loved feeling. Perfection isn't the goal, and each one is unique in its own way.
Elana’s textile pieces are made with heirloom quality cotton and flax linen grown and spun on family farms. Chosen for their naturally anti-bacterial qualities, these fabrics, have supple textures and high absorbency - perfect for daily use. Each textile piece is screen printed with water based inks and dyed with earth friendly pigments. Her paper prints and greeting cards are made with vegetable and algae inks - Traditionally, ink is made from petroleum-based products which are harmful to the environment. The paper goods are printed in a FSC (Forest Stewardship Certified) facility that also uses wind and solar power! Everything is created in small batches, and we work with small suppliers to keep production as local and ethical as possible.
